My Addiction

I’m addicted and I’m so glad
because this addiction’s not so bad.
I know it’s really taxing on me
but it’s something that makes me free.
It reaches deep into my pocketbook
steals as efficiently as any crook.
Sometimes it causes me to lose much rest
and can put my stamina to the test.
Embarrassment pops up once in a while
and leaves me with a silly-faced smile
when I say something wrong to someone
and feel like I should turn around and run.
My addiction is people, you see,
I touch their lives and they touch me.
They are the greatest reason why
people give me a natural high.
