McDonald Coffee Group
By Larry Linville
They gather daily with their cup
to tell each other what is up.
They have the same place to sit
and if you’re there, they’ll pitch a fit.
And each chair has the same face
always sitting in the same place.
The golden arches are outside.
They’ll be there until all have died.
Coffee sometimes tastes real good
but often not the way it should.
They never gossip – you know that’s true
but if you’re missing they talk of you.
They discuss all the local news
with their variety of views.
Politics is discussed in full
so things never get very dull
‘cause the facts don’t get in the way
of the opinions that they say.
Look for these groups across the nation
the next time that you a vacation.
Sometimes they make a lot of noise
and they always act like grown up boys.
People notice they are around
and often greet them with a frown.
It’s not Cheers but much the same
‘cause everyone knows your name.
It’s like a club without the fees
where they are free to shoot the breeze.
But it’s not a church that they would make
because they are all wide awake.

Oh my gosh, you crack me up! We have missed you and Thelma the last couple weeks!
Marty can tell you LOTS about these groups, as we are in so many McD's!
I see your coffee group nearly everyday
from behind the counters as I earn my pay.
To a different store each day I go
and overhear things I need not know.
Uptown ,downtown it doesn’t matter
different faces , same ol’ clatter.
With my repair truck parked outside
I walk in to repair whats died.
Their judging eyes scan my way
I am in their space they seem to say.
They don’t gossip, who are you kidding?
Rumor mill may be more fitting.
I learn of the hottest course of events
with twists and bends of the evidence.
No topic is ever taboo
they feed off each other to simply outdo.
Each topic is taken to it’s extremes
I have experienced so much from these scholarly teams.
Yes, the faces and names are different from town to town.
But, the chronicles and yarns have the same ol’ sound.
They can real loud with party like energy
The eclecticness redefines words like synergy.
When it is “all men” they cuss and cuss
One lady present puts a governor on that bus.
I have seen many of these social assemblies
They seem to have a commonality
They all share big stories and their blues
keep each other on top of the news.
Through it all - it must come from above
ever present is an element of love.
thanks for your response. I'm missing being at Paradise.
Marty, one of the coffee group brought a print-out of my poem and yours and were amuse.
I loved what you wrote.
I have been reading your book and I applaud your talent and good humor.
thanks. I'm glad you enjoy the book.
