Lenten Devotion for March 18 - Who Do You Say I Am?

Mark 8: 27-30
Jesus went on with his disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” And they answered him, “John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Messiah.” And he sternly ordered them not to tell anyone about him.

“Who do people say that I am?” he asked,
then he narrowed the question down.
It mattered what the disciples thought
rather than rumors going around.

“Who do you say that I am?” he asks
to the disciples living today.
You must give this answer for yourself
no matter what other people say.

Is it too much for us to believe
that our actions and words should agree
so others would hear the words we say
and in our actions they could also see?
