The All Knowing Waitress

“The usual?” she smiled and asked of me
proud of her perfect waitress memory.
Predictable, I never wished to be
so I shook my head and said, “ number three.”
“But you always have a number four
and sit way up front right next to the door!”
“Surely, you must be playing with my mind!
you are always very thoughtful and kind.”
“Well, I would never want to bother you
so why not just give me a number two?”
The next time I entered into the place
she looked at me with a smile on her face.
She didn’t try to guess what I would choose
because if she did, she knew she would
